What is Ambient Sound Mixer?

The Ambient Sound Mixer blends layered nature and focus sounds — rain, fire, ocean, wind, forest, white, pink and brown noise, cafe chatter, soft keyboard clicks, night crickets, distant thunder and a morning dawn chorus — each on its own volume slider from 0 to 100%. Hit Play to start the blend right here, or hit Download to render a WAV file you can take with you. All audio is synthesised on your device, and the Copy mix link button turns your blend into a link you can share.

Each channel is generated in real time (filtered noise for rain, low rumble plus crackle for fire, modulated brown noise for ocean, gusty noise for wind, layered birds and rustle for forest, three colours of noise, voice-band murmur for the cafe, and crisp taps for the keyboard). Because the sounds are procedural, there is no loop point to spot and no copyright on the audio. The sleep timer eases the volume down gently in its final stretch rather than cutting off, and the downloaded WAV bakes your current slider mix into a finite-length file you can use offline.

How to use

  1. Choose from available ambient sounds like rain, forest, or waves
  2. Adjust the volume slider for each sound independently
  3. Combine multiple sounds to build your own mix

When to use

  • Building a focus track for deep work without the lyric-driven distraction of music.
  • Falling asleep to a custom blend of rain and ocean instead of looping nature recordings.
  • Masking nearby chatter in a co-working space or open-plan office.

Result

Mix gentle rain at 70% volume with soft wind at 30% for a calm background.

FAQ

Are these real field recordings or synthesised sounds?
Every channel is generated mathematically using filtered noise, oscillators, and modulation. That means no looping seams, no copyright, and a tiny file footprint compared to multi-megabyte audio clips.
What length can I download, and is it stereo?
You choose the length before downloading — 30 seconds, 1, 5, or 10 minutes — rendered at 44.1 kHz mono. Each generator has no audible start or end, so even a short clip loops seamlessly and most players will repeat it indefinitely.
Why does the audio sometimes glitch when I move multiple sliders quickly?
Each slider triggers a recalculation in the Web Audio graph. On slower laptops, multiple recalculations in the same second can briefly stutter. Pause, set your levels, then press play for a clean start.
Will the mixer keep playing if I switch to another tab?
Yes, it keeps playing in the background. Background tabs sometimes get throttled, which can soften the noise filtering a little, but the sound itself doesn't stop.
Does the tool send my audio anywhere?
No. The sounds are generated on your device with Web Audio, and the WAV is rendered on the same page. Nothing is uploaded or streamed from a server.
