What is Drum Machine?

Drum Machine is an interactive beat pad and step sequencer. Tap any drum to preview its sound, click cells on the 16-step grid to program a pattern, then right-click a cell to soften it for natural accents. Layer kicks, snares, hi-hats, claps and crashes, export the loop as WAV, or share your beat with a single link.

Eight instruments — kick, snare, closed hi-hat, open hi-hat, clap, rim, tom and crash — sit on a step grid that loops endlessly. Dial BPM anywhere from 40 to 240, set swing for an off-the-grid shuffle, and give individual hits soft / medium / loud accents so your beat breathes instead of marching. Per-track volume, mute and solo let you mix as you go. The whole thing renders sound locally on your device, and every pattern can be packed into a shareable URL.

How to use

  1. Tap drum pads to preview sounds, or click cells in the sequencer grid to program a pattern.
  2. Adjust tempo (BPM), swing, and volume for each instrument track.
  3. Press play to hear your beat loop, then export the pattern as a WAV file.

When to use

  • Sketching a beat for a song demo without opening a full DAW.
  • Teaching rhythm concepts — swing, syncopation, four-on-the-floor — to students or beginners.
  • Generating short percussion loops as backing for podcast transitions or video edits.

Result

Build a hip-hop beat — kick on beats 1 and 3, snare on 2 and 4, hi-hat eighth notes, soften every second hat hit for a natural groove, set tempo to 90 BPM, then copy the share link to send the pattern to a collaborator or export the loop as WAV.

FAQ

How does the 16-step grid map to bars and beats?
Each row is one bar in 4/4. Each cell is a sixteenth note. Cells 1, 5, 9, 13 are the four downbeats — that's why the default kick lands there and the snare on 5 and 13.
What does the swing slider actually change?
It delays every even-numbered sixteenth so off-beats feel slightly late, the way a swung shuffle sounds. At 50% swing you're at perfectly straight timing; 60-66% is the classic hip-hop / jazz feel.
Are the drum sounds samples or synthesized?
Every drum is synthesized from oscillators and filtered noise — no samples loaded, no audio files downloaded. That's why patterns export cleanly at any tempo without sample-rate artifacts, and why nothing leaves your device while you play.
Can I export the beat as MIDI or a stem file?
Export gives you a stereo WAV or a compressed MP3 (128/192/320 kbps) of the whole loop at the current BPM. MIDI export and per-track stems aren't included — for that level of control you'd move the idea into a DAW with the WAV as a reference.
Why does playback get glitchy on my phone?
Mobile browsers throttle the audio thread when the tab loses focus or the screen turns off. Keep the page foregrounded while playing. Bluetooth headphones also add latency — wired output is more accurate for tight timing.
