What is Magnifying Glass?
The Magnifying Glass tool lets you upload any image and zoom into specific areas using a virtual magnifying lens. It is perfect for inspecting fine details in photos, documents, or artwork — all image processing happens privately on your device.
Zoom is adjustable from 1x to 10x, and lens diameter from 80 to 300 pixels, so you can sweep small text on a screenshot or inspect a single thread in a fabric photo without re-uploading. A live pixel readout under the lens centre shows hex, RGB, HSL, HSV, and alpha values, and every freeze appends the sampled colour to a scrollable history list. The lens renders on a canvas, so the magnified region downloads as a crisp PNG sized exactly to the lens.
How to use
- Upload an image from your device using the file picker
- Hover or touch over any area of the image to activate the magnifier
- Adjust the zoom level and lens size to inspect fine details
When to use
- Reading tiny serial numbers, fine print, or background text in photos.
- Inspecting jewellery, fabric, coins, or stamp details before listing them online.
- Checking sharpness, focus, or pixel-level edges in a photo crop without opening Photoshop.
Result
Upload a group photo and use the 3x magnifier to read the text on a sign in the background that is too small to see normally.
FAQ
- Does the magnifier interpolate pixels or show them sharp?
- It draws the source pixels onto a canvas at the requested zoom factor, which applies default image smoothing. For very high zoom on small images you will see softening rather than jaggies. Upload a higher-resolution version of the image if you need pixel-perfect inspection.
- What's the largest image I can upload?
- Up to 20 MB per file, in PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF. The image stays in memory on your device and is never sent to a server. Animated GIFs only show the first frame in the lens, which is normal for canvas drawing.
- Can I save the magnified area as an image?
- Yes. Hover or touch the image once so the lens has rendered, then click 'Download magnified region'. The file saves as a PNG named after your original file with the zoom factor appended, for example beach-photo-3x.png.
- Why is the lens missing on mobile?
- The lens follows pointer or touch events. On mobile, tap and drag across the image to activate it. If your finger leaves the image edges, the lens hides until you touch the image again. Pinch-zoom on the page does not affect the magnifier.
- Is the image uploaded anywhere?
- No. The file is loaded as a data URL and drawn onto a canvas locally on your device. Closing the page discards it. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored after the page closes.
