What is Pet Name Generator?
Pet Name Generator gives you random name ideas for dogs, cats, and other pets. Pick a category (cute, funny, classic, exotic, or food-inspired), hit generate, and save the ones you like.
The generator pulls from curated name lists per species (dog, cat, bird, fish, hamster, other) and per style (cute, funny, classic, exotic, food-inspired). Narrow results by gender, by character length, by syllable count (1, 2, or 3+), or by starting letter, generate a batch of up to 30, and save favorites locally so they survive a page refresh. A first set loads automatically, you can swap any single name you don't like, short one- or two-syllable names are flagged as easy to train, and Copy All grabs the whole list at once. Each language has its own native name list, not transliterated English.

FAQ
- How are the name styles different from each other?
- Cute leans soft and friendly (Bubbles, Daisy). Funny is wordplay and puns (Sir Barks-a-Lot). Classic uses traditional names (Max, Bella). Exotic draws on uncommon or mythical names (Atlas, Phoenix). Food-inspired runs from Biscuit to Waffles.
- Why don't I see any human names in the cat suggestions?
- The cat list focuses on names that suit feline personalities (Whiskers, Luna, Smokey) rather than human first names. If you want crossover names like Oliver or Lucy, the Classic style includes those in the dog and other-pet lists too.
- Will short vet name tags work with the names this generates?
- Use the Short length filter to keep names at five letters or fewer. Standard engraved tags hold 8-12 characters per line, so short names fit with room for a phone number on the second line.
- What's the rule of thumb for a name a dog will actually respond to?
- Trainers recommend one or two syllables ending in a vowel or sharp consonant: Buddy, Rex, Coco, Pip. Set the Syllables filter to 1 or 2 to bias toward these — names that short also get an "easy to train" tag in the results — but any name works if you say it consistently during training.
- Are the favorites I save kept private?
- Yes. Favorites live in your browser's local storage on this device only. They're not sent to a server and they don't follow you to other devices. Clearing site data will remove them.
