What is Plus Codes Converter?

This tool converts between latitude/longitude and Plus Codes (Open Location Codes) — the address system Google Maps uses for places without street addresses. Encode any coordinate into a code like "849VQJQ5+XX", or decode a code back to its location and area. Short codes with a reference locality are supported too.

The plus sign splits the code into a regional part and a local part, so the full 7HP8PM7G+C4 shortens to PM7G+C4 once a nearby town supplies the missing prefix. Ten characters mark out roughly a 14 m box, eleven narrow it to about 3 m. Results export as CSV, GeoJSON, KML or GPX, or open straight in a maps app.

What does the plus sign in the middle of a Plus Code actually do?
It always sits after the eighth character and separates the coarse grid from the fine detail. The eight characters before it pin the location to about 275 m; the two after it bring that down to roughly 14 m.
Why does a short code such as PM7G+C4 fail to resolve on its own?
Four characters were removed from the front, and those are what anchor the code to a region. Enter a nearby latitude and longitude in the reference field and the missing prefix is recovered from the closest match.
Can I write a Plus Code on a parcel instead of a street address?
A courier using Google Maps will get there, and several postal services accept the code in the address block. Writing the town and country alongside is still safer, since sorting centres work from the printed place name.
Why do the first four characters stay the same across a whole region?
The first pair covers 20 degrees and the second covers 1 degree, so that opening block spans about 110 km. Two points in the same city share those characters and only diverge from the fifth one on.
