What is Ringtone Maker?

Create custom ringtones from any audio or video file. Upload an MP3, WAV, or a video clip, trim to the exact section you want, and export as M4R (iPhone) or MP3 (Android). Add fade-in and fade-out for smooth transitions.

The waveform editor shows the full track so you can pinpoint a chorus, hook, or guitar lick to the millisecond. Drag the start and end handles, type exact times in MM:SS.ms, or click on the waveform to audition any spot during preview. Trim to the 30-second Android cap or the longer 40-second iPhone M4R cap, then layer fade-ins and fade-outs to remove the abrupt entry that ruins a ringtone. Output is M4R for iOS (the only format Apple recognises as a ringtone) or MP3 for Android.

How to use

  1. Upload an audio or video file — MP3, WAV, OGG, MP4, MOV and other common formats are supported. Video uploads have their audio track extracted for you.
  2. Use the waveform editor to set the exact start and end points — drag the handles, type the times directly, or click anywhere on the waveform during playback to seek. Android cuts at 30 seconds; iPhone allows up to 40 seconds in M4R.
  3. Choose your output format (M4R for iPhone, MP3 for Android) and download your custom ringtone.

When to use

  • Turning the chorus of a favourite song into a custom incoming-call tone.
  • Picking the best 10 seconds of a movie quote or voice line for a notification sound.
  • Building short alert tones from a podcast intro or jingle for a brand's phone system.

Result

You have a favorite song and want the guitar solo (at 2:15–2:40) as your ringtone. Upload the MP3, drag the selection handles to isolate those 25 seconds, add a 0.5s fade-in, and export as M4R for your iPhone.

FAQ

What are the length limits for each format?
MP3 ringtones for Android are capped here at 30 seconds — long enough for a clear hook without overshooting most phone-call timeouts. M4R for iPhone goes up to 40 seconds, which is the maximum iOS will accept in the Tones library. Anything longer is rejected at import.
How do I get the M4R file onto my iPhone?
Download the M4R, open Finder (macOS) or iTunes (Windows), connect your iPhone, drag the file into the Tones section, then sync. The ringtone appears under Settings → Sounds → Ringtone. There is no over-the-air option from a webpage.
What audio and video formats does the upload accept?
Audio: MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, AAC, M4A, and WebM. Video: MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, M4V, and WebM — the audio track is pulled out automatically, so you can lift a ringtone straight from a movie clip or recording. Any common file your device can play, the tool can trim. DRM-protected files (purchased iTunes tracks before 2009) cannot be decoded.
Do fade-in and fade-out change the audio quality?
Only the start and end of the selection are affected. A fade applies a linear gain ramp over the duration you choose — 0.5 to 2 seconds works for most music. The unfaded middle stays at full quality and bit depth.
Can I use any song I want, legally?
Trimming a song you bought for personal use as your own ringtone is widely accepted under fair use in most jurisdictions. Selling or distributing the ringtone, or using a copyrighted track for a business's phone system, requires a separate licence.
