What is Document Scanner?
Document Scanner turns your device camera into a flatbed scanner. Capture a photo of any document, receipt, or whiteboard and the tool automatically detects edges, corrects perspective distortion, and enhances contrast to produce a clean, sharp scan ready for sharing or archiving.
Behind the scenes, the tool runs a luminance-gradient edge scan on the captured image, finds the four most likely document corners, and uses a perspective transform to remap the warped quadrilateral into a clean rectangle. You can fine-tune the corners by dragging, snap them to common paper ratios (A4, Letter, Square) with one click, then pick from six enhancement modes — Original, Grayscale, High Contrast, pure Black & White, Sharpen for crisper text, or Whiteboard to wipe shadows and pop coloured markers on a meeting board snapshot. Built-in text recognition lifts editable text out of the final scan, and once you've run it the PDF export turns into a searchable PDF with an invisible text layer so the file can be searched and copy-pasted in any reader.
How to use
- Allow camera access and position your document within the viewfinder, or upload an existing photo.
- Adjust the detected corner points if needed, then apply perspective correction to flatten the document.
- Pick an enhancement mode (Grayscale, High Contrast, Black & White, Sharpen, or Whiteboard for meeting boards), tune brightness and contrast if you need to, then download as PNG, JPEG, or PDF — run the built-in text recognizer first and the PDF saves as a searchable PDF you can highlight and copy text from.
When to use
- Capturing receipts for expense reports without dragging out a flatbed scanner.
- Saving whiteboard sketches from a meeting as a flat PDF before someone wipes it.
- Digitising handwritten notes or signed paperwork on the go.
Result
You're at a meeting and need to digitize handwritten notes on a whiteboard. Open the scanner, snap a photo at an angle, and the tool corrects the perspective warp and boosts contrast so every word is clearly readable in the output PDF.
FAQ
- Why does the perspective correction sometimes pick the wrong corners?
- Auto-detection looks for the strongest rectangular edges, so a busy background or a document that bleeds into the table edge can confuse it. Drag the four corner handles to match the actual document boundary before applying the transform.
- Will the scan be readable for OCR later?
- Yes, and you can pull the text out without leaving the page. After enhancing, click Extract text on the Enhance step and the built-in recognizer reads the scan and drops editable, copyable text into a panel below. The High Contrast and Sharpen modes give the cleanest input; for marker writing on a meeting board the Whiteboard mode usually beats both. Bright, even light with no glare still helps accuracy on handwriting. Once recognition is done, the PDF export becomes a searchable PDF — every word gets an invisible text layer so the file can be searched and copy-pasted in any PDF reader.
- What output formats are available?
- You can download as PNG for crisp single-page output, JPEG when file size matters (the quality slider controls compression), or export to PDF — multi-page if you've assembled several scans on the page strip. Run the built-in text recognizer first and the PDF export switches to a searchable PDF with an invisible text layer above the image, so the document can be searched and copy-pasted in any PDF reader. Each format embeds the corrected image at full resolution, so zoom stays sharp.
- Does it work offline once the page is loaded?
- Yes. Capture, edge detection, the perspective warp, and the enhancement filters all run locally on your device. The page only needs the network for the initial load, not for processing your documents.
- Why does my scan look blurry at the edges?
- If the original photo was taken from too steep an angle, the perspective correction has to stretch the far edges to flatten the page, which costs some sharpness. Shoot closer to straight-on and the result stays crisp across the whole page.
