What is Letter Template Generator?
Creates properly formatted letters for business correspondence, cover letters, complaints, and personal notes. Pick a template, fill in your details, and download a PDF ready to print or email.
The tool covers nine letter types — business, cover letter, resignation, complaint, thank-you, reference, recommendation, follow-up, and apology — each with appropriate body defaults you can tweak in three tones (formal, friendly, assertive). A readability read under the body flags whether your prose lands as Simple, Clear, or Advanced as you type. Date format flips between US (January 1, 2026), European (01/01/2026), and ISO (2026-01-01). The preview pane shows the exact layout with proper block spacing, a sender block carrying optional title, company, and phone line, recipient block, salutation, body, closing, signature, and an optional enclosures line. Export as a print-ready PDF or as an editable Word document.
How to use
- Select a letter type — business, cover letter, resignation, complaint, thank you, or personal.
- Fill in the sender and recipient details, subject line, and write your letter body.
- Preview the formatted letter, then download it as a PDF for printing or as an editable Word file to keep working on.

You need to write a formal complaint letter to your internet provider. You select 'Complaint Letter', enter your address and the company's details, describe the service outage, and download a cleanly formatted PDF with proper business letter spacing and a signature line.
FAQ
- Can I save my letter and come back to edit it later?
- Right now the form state lives in the page only. Once you close the tab it's gone. Copy your finished body text to a notes app if you might revisit it, or download the PDF immediately and re-type if you need to amend something later.
- Will the date update automatically when I print the letter tomorrow?
- The date is generated when you preview or download. If you preview today and download tomorrow without refreshing, the date stays at today's. Refresh the page to get tomorrow's date stamped into the PDF.
- Why is there no envelope template?
- Envelope printing usually needs printer-specific tray settings and orientation handling that vary too much across hardware. For now, copy the recipient block from the letter and use your word processor's envelope wizard, or buy window envelopes that show through to the letter's address block.
- Can I add a company logo or letterhead?
- The current PDF is plain text on white. For a letterhead, generate the PDF here, then overlay your letterhead in a tool like a PDF editor, or print onto pre-printed letterhead paper. Direct image upload is on the roadmap.
- Does the tool include a recommendation letter template?
- Yes — pick 'Recommendation Letter' from the letter type selector. You get a default body framed around endorsing a candidate, which you can edit to add specific examples. The subject pre-fills to 'Letter of Recommendation' and the closing block matches standard formal practice. There is also a separate 'Reference Letter' type for shorter character references.
