What is QR Code Generator WiFi?
QR Code Generator WiFi turns your network name and password into a scannable QR code. Instead of reading out a long password, guests point a phone camera at the code and connect on their own.
Encodes a WIFI: URI containing the SSID, password, security type (WPA/WPA2, WEP, or open), and hidden-network flag, then renders the result as a QR with selectable colors and error correction. Modern iPhones (iOS 11+) and Android phones (8.0+) recognize the URI and offer a one-tap Join Network prompt right inside the camera viewfinder.
How to use
- Step 1 — Enter your WiFi network name (SSID) and password.
- Step 2 — Select the encryption type (WPA/WPA2, WEP, or None).
- Step 3 — Download or print the QR code and place it where guests can easily scan it.
When to use
- Putting Wi-Fi access on a cafe table tent so customers connect without asking staff for the password.
- Printing the guest-network QR on a fridge magnet or wall card for visitors at home.
- Adding network details to event signage at meetups so attendees connect before the talks begin.
Result
Create a QR code for your cafe's guest WiFi network 'CafeGuest' with password 'welcome2024!' using WPA2 encryption, then print and display it at the counter.
FAQ
- Does every phone connect automatically when it scans the code?
- iOS 11 and newer and Android 8.0 and newer both prompt to join from the system camera. Older devices or third-party scanner apps just show the credentials as plain text, and the user has to enter them in Settings manually.
- How is the password stored inside the QR code?
- As plain text inside the WIFI: URI. Anyone who scans the code can read the SSID and password. For guest networks that's fine; for your main network use a guest Wi-Fi or rotate the password periodically.
- Does it work with WPA3 or only WPA2?
- The WIFI: spec only defines WPA, WEP, and nopass. Devices treat WPA as covering both WPA2 and WPA3 in practice. So yes, the same QR connects to a WPA3 network as long as you mark security as WPA when generating it.
- What does the hidden-network checkbox actually change?
- It writes the H:true flag into the URI, so the joining device knows it should ask the router for the SSID instead of waiting to see it broadcast. Without that flag, hidden networks fail to join because the phone won't find an advertising AP.
- What if my password contains special characters like ; or \?
- The generator escapes the WIFI: control characters (; , : \\ ") automatically before encoding, so passwords with punctuation still scan and connect correctly. Just paste the exact password and the encoder takes care of the escaping.
