What is Charades Generator?

This tool deals out random charades prompts so nobody has to think up words mid-party. Pick a category like movies, animals, or actions, set the difficulty, and tap for a fresh prompt each round. A built-in round timer keeps the game moving.

Five categories run at three difficulty tiers each, and Mixed pulls from all of them at once. Rounds are timed at 30, 45, 60 or 90 seconds with a chime at zero. Correct and skipped answers are tallied as you play, the round log exports as CSV, and your own words can be dropped into the queue alongside the built-in ones.

How to use

  1. Pick a category (movies, animals, actions, professions, objects, or mixed) and a difficulty level.
  2. Tap to reveal the prompt, and keep the screen turned away from the guessing team.
  3. Start the timer and act out the word; tap again for the next player's prompt.

When to use

  • Family game night when nobody wants to write forty slips of paper first.
  • Filling the last ten minutes of a lesson with an acting-out warm-up.
  • Team socials that need a scorable round and a timer everyone can hear.

Result

At a family game night, set the category to Animals on Easy for the kids' round — prompts like "penguin" and "kangaroo" appear — then switch to Movies on Hard for the adults with titles like "Inception".

FAQ

How many seconds should a charades round get before it stops being fun?
Sixty is the usual club rule and it suits mixed adult groups. Drop to thirty for easy prompts or a big crowd waiting their turn, and stretch to ninety once the hard tier starts throwing whole film titles at people.
Can I add words of my own to the ones the generator deals out?
Yes. Type them into the custom field and they join the same shuffled queue as the built-in bank, so an inside joke about someone's dog turns up between a penguin and a lighthouse keeper.
What actually changes between the easy, medium and hard tiers?
How familiar the word is, and how much of it can be mimed at all. Easy holds things like sleeping and eating. Hard reaches for prompts that need a whole scene rather than a gesture, which is where teams start arguing about the rules.
Can I print the word list and play without passing a phone around?
Copy or download the current pool as a numbered text list, cut the lines into slips, and the game runs off a bowl. The CSV export is a separate file holding round-by-round results: word, category, outcome and seconds.
