What is JPG to PNG Converter?

JPG to PNG Converter turns your JPEG images into PNG format with lossless compression, so nothing gets lost in the process. PNG supports transparency and works well for graphics, logos, and images where crisp edges matter.

Conversion runs on this page through a canvas redraw: each JPEG is decoded once and re-encoded as PNG without any extra lossy pass. Drop in up to 20 files at once and the tool builds a card per image showing original size, converted size, and dimensions so you can verify the output matches the source. Pull each PNG individually or grab the whole batch in a single ZIP, exported at the source image's full resolution.

How to use

  1. Drop one or many JPG/JPEG files onto the upload area, or click to pick up to 20 at once.
  2. Each card shows the original and converted file sizes plus the image dimensions so you can confirm the PNG matches the source.
  3. Optionally turn on "Make a color transparent" to knock out a solid background, then download a single PNG or grab the whole batch as one ZIP.

When to use

  • Prepping a photo for a logo or design overlay where transparent edges matter.
  • Submitting an image to a printer or app that only accepts PNG uploads.
  • Stopping further JPEG quality loss before editing the same file repeatedly.

Result

A designer gets a logo on a flat white JPG but needs it to sit cleanly over a colored banner. They upload it, switch on Make a color transparent, leave the color on white, and download a PNG with the background gone — ready to drop straight onto the banner.

FAQ

Will converting to PNG improve the image quality?
No. JPEG compression artifacts already in the source remain visible in the PNG output. The format change just stops new losses from each future save; existing blockiness, banding, or chroma noise stays as it was.
Why is the PNG file much larger than the original JPG?
PNG uses lossless compression while JPEG throws data away to shrink photos. For a 1 MB JPEG you might see a 3-5 MB PNG, since every pixel value, including subtle gradients, is preserved exactly.
Can I make a color in the JPG transparent?
Yes. Switch on "Make a color transparent," pick the background shade (white is the default), and the tool replaces every matching pixel with a clear alpha channel so the PNG has a see-through background. Nudge the tolerance higher to catch soft or anti-aliased edges, lower to remove only an exact match.
Is there a file size limit?
Whatever your device can decode in memory. Phone photos and most camera output convert without issue. Very large scans over 50 MP may pause for a moment while the canvas redraws, but no upload ever happens.
Does the image lose any colors during conversion?
No. JPEG stores 8 bits per channel and so does standard PNG, so the conversion is bit-exact for the visible pixel data. EXIF, GPS, and camera metadata aren't carried across though.
