FAQ

Why does 1 US cup equal 236.6 mL and not 250 mL?

The US legal cup is 236.588 mL; the metric cup used across the UK and Australia is 250 mL. Flip the US / UK toggle to switch between them. Japanese cups (200 mL) aren't a preset, so for those read the millilitre column directly.

Are these fluid ounces or weight ounces?

Fluid ounces, which measure volume. Weight ounces (mass) are different — 1 fluid ounce of water happens to weigh about 1 ounce, but for oil, syrup, or flour the weight is different from the volume number.

Can I convert dry ingredients with this?

Yes — pick an ingredient (flour, sugar, butter, honey, milk, oil) and the tool adds a weight readout in grams and ounces using that ingredient's density. 1 cup of flour weighs far less than 1 cup of water, and the ingredient selector accounts for that.

What is the difference between US gallons and imperial gallons?

The US gallon is 3,785 mL and the imperial (UK) gallon is 4,546 mL — about 20% more. Set the US / UK toggle to UK and every imperial unit (gallon, quart, pint, fluid ounce, tablespoon, teaspoon) switches to British values automatically, no manual multiplying.
