What is Icon Maker?

Icon Maker lets you create simple, professional icons for apps, websites, and favicons. Combine shapes, letters, and colors on a grid canvas, optionally fill the shape with a two-stop gradient, then export in multiple sizes (16×16 to 512×512) as PNG, SVG, multi-size .ico, or a one-click favicon ZIP bundle.

Pick a circle, square, or rounded square as the base, set a background and foreground colour, then overlay either a single letter or one of the included symbols (check, star, arrow, heart, plus). Fine-tune font size and offset until the glyph sits dead-centre, and export at six standard sizes from 16×16 favicon to 512×512 PWA manifest icon in one click.

How to use

  1. Step 1 — Choose a base shape (circle, square, rounded square) and set the background color.
  2. Step 2 — Add a letter, symbol, or simple shape overlay. Adjust foreground color, size, and position.
  3. Step 3 — Preview at multiple sizes, then export as PNG (16, 32, 48, 128, 256, 512px), SVG, .ico, or grab the full favicon ZIP bundle with the ready-to-paste HTML snippet.

When to use

  • Generating a favicon for a side project when you don't want to open Figma or pay for an icon pack.
  • Making a placeholder app icon for an Android or iOS prototype before the real artwork is ready.
  • Building a brand monogram (initial on a coloured tile) for a personal site or GitHub avatar.

Result

A developer creates a favicon for a todo app: blue rounded-square background (#3B82F6) with a white checkmark symbol, exported as a 32×32 PNG for the browser tab and 512×512 PNG for the PWA manifest.

FAQ

Which sizes do I actually need for a website favicon?
At minimum a 32×32 PNG for desktop browser tabs and a 180×180 (or 192×192) for iOS home-screen and Android shortcuts. If you're shipping a PWA, add 512×512 for the manifest. The Export All button writes the full set in one go.
Should I export SVG or PNG?
SVG scales perfectly and is the right choice for in-app icons used at varying sizes, like sidebar logos. PNG is required for favicons, app stores, and any platform that does not accept vector input. The export menu offers both.
Can I use my own image or symbol instead of the built-in set?
Yes. Switch the overlay to Image mode and upload a PNG, JPG, SVG, or WebP — it gets clipped to your chosen shape, and you can scale, move, and rotate it before exporting. For a quick mark, Letter mode also takes any single character, including a pasted emoji. For a fully custom logo, drop your transparent SVG in and pick the transparent background.
Why does my letter look off-centre at small export sizes?
Type optical centring rarely lines up with the geometric centre. Letters with descenders (g, p, y) or tall capitals look balanced when nudged a pixel or two off the maths centre. Use the Offset X and Offset Y sliders to compensate before exporting.
Does the rounded square match the iOS or Android system shape?
It is a generic rounded square close to what iOS uses. Both Android (round, squircle, teardrop) and iOS render an adaptive icon mask on top of whatever you submit, so design at full bleed and let the OS clip it to its current shape.
