What is Mood Board Creator?
Mood Board Creator is a freeform canvas for arranging images, colour swatches, text, and shapes into a visual board. Drag pieces around, layer them, rotate, then export as a sharp PNG or a smaller JPEG you can drop into a client email or a Notion page.
Pick from five canvas presets (1080x1080, 1200x800, 1920x1080, 800x600, A4 print size) and ten background colours including cream, sage, dusk, and full black. Start from a Fashion, Interior Design, Brand Palette, or Film Look template, or build from scratch by dropping JPEG and PNG images straight from your device. Add circular colour swatches, freeform text, or rectangles, circles, and triangles whose fill colour, border colour, and border width you can change at any time. Each element rotates, resizes, and reorders independently. Export the finished board as PNG for crisp printing or as JPEG with a quality slider for fast sharing.
How to use
- Pick a canvas size (1080 square works for social, A4 for printing) and a background colour, then add elements from the toolbar: image upload, colour swatch, text, or basic shape.
- Drag any element to position it. Use the corner handles to resize and the rotate handle for the angle. Right side controls send items forward or backward in the stack.
- Type a title for the board, pick PNG for sharpness or JPEG with a quality slider for a smaller file, then download. The file is named after the title, so name it before exporting if you plan to keep multiple drafts.
When to use
- Pitching a brand identity to a client with colour palette, typography sample, and logo direction on one page.
- Planning a room renovation with fabric, paint, and furniture references before placing any orders.
- Setting a visual reference for a photoshoot, video edit, or wedding so the team has a shared tone.
Result
An interior designer pulls together a living room concept. They upload three fabric swatch photos, add four paint colour swatches sampled from a Pantone deck, drop a Vitra lounge chair image in the centre, and label everything: "accent wall - clay 1825", "sofa fabric - linen weave", "pendant - smoked glass". Export as PNG and email it to the client before the next meeting.
FAQ
- What image formats can I drop onto the board?
- JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WebP all work here. Very large source files (over ~12 megapixels) are auto-scaled to fit the canvas without lag. SVG isn't supported in this version because the canvas needs raster data for the PNG export.
- Can I copy a hex code from another tool and use it as a swatch?
- Yes. Open the colour picker on the Add Color panel and paste your hex value (#A3B18A or A3B18A both work). The circular swatch picks up the exact code and you can resize it like any other element.
- How do I crop a photo I just dropped on the board?
- The canvas treats each image as a single object, so cropping happens via masking: place a rectangle over the area you want to hide and match it to the background colour. For a true crop, edit the photo in our Image Cropper first, then re-upload it.
- Will the PNG be sharp enough to print on A4 paper?
- Yes if you pick the A4 preset (2480x3508 pixels, 300 DPI on A4). The other presets are screen-sized, so 1080 square prints at about 9 cm wide before the pixels become visible. Use the A4 preset whenever the destination is paper.
- Are my uploaded images sent anywhere?
- No. Photos are read into the page with the FileReader API and stay in the Fabric.js canvas, and the export runs locally too. The board is auto-saved on your own device so it comes back when you return, and nothing ever leaves your device — use Clear to wipe it.
